'Everybody likes everything these days. The whole world is a nerd.'
'Are you mad because other people like Star Wars? Are you mad because people like me like Star Wars?'
'Maybe.'

If you broke Elena's heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she's expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does. What she's not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectible Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels.

We're all part of "The Line"

This short story (which is only available in the UK, FYI) is about a girl who bleeds Star Wars. Her love of Star Wars has brought her to stand outside in line for 4 days waiting for opening night. Instead of seeing the throngs of people Elena was expecting, she was one of only 3 people waiting in this line. This story was about passion for something you love, even though nobody else seems to be as passionate as you are, and not being afraid to show your passion. That, my friends, is the true meaning of the word "geek". Just like the story, I'm going to make this review short and sweet.

Pros

Setting - The entire story takes place in line outside of a movie theater (in the middle of winter). I can honestly say that I've never read anything in this setting before.

Characters - We only have 3 main characters (Troy, Gabe, and Elena), and I really enjoyed their intereactions. Ms. Rowell didn't go into much detail about what they looked liked. I'm not sure if this was because she wanted us to be able to picture ourselves and other nerdy friends as these characters, or if it was just because it was a short story and there were more important things to cover. Either way, I definitely found myself caring about these little characters.

Concept - Like the setting, this was a unique view into what people will do for things they love. It wasn't at all about getting a ticket on opening night or getting the best seat in the theater. The story was entirely about letting your geek flag fly for all to see and making a statement for something you love.

Overall

I'm glad I read this short story. Being a Star Wars fan myself (and having waited in release day lines for other fandoms as well), it was defnitely an enjoyable reading experience. I like to think it was worth the shipping I paid to order it from the UK. If you can manage to get a copy of this book, please do!!! It was super cute, in classic Rainbow Rowell fashion. I'm excited to be able to display this on my shelf with all of her other books.
